|My beautiful new counter top – Wilsonart Laminate in Jewelled Coral (Home Depot)|
|An awesome sink – 8 inches deep! Love that it actually keeps the dishes somewhat hidden as it is soooo deep! Yee haaa!!!|
There is dust everywhere in my house…no joke…I don’t mean dust bunnies. I mean dust. We just had some things done on the house this past month and there is dust all over! In the drawers, on the floor, everywhere! I don’t know if it will ever go away. We had our home listed on the market for a year and despite a strong initial interest, along came November without any offers. We didn’t need to move..just wanted to for the sake of some more space and to be closer to our church in Beach Lake. We currently live in Honesdale by the schools which is a great location, but we are in Beach Lake daily. That’s 20 minute commute each way and not fun in the winter. I also desired another bathroom as the girls are growing…what will Chris do? There is no way he will win against three women.
Well, in November after much prayer, we came to the conclusion that it just wasn’t happening and not worth all the stress. After all, we didn’t HAVE to move and the market is lousy right now anyway. We were not able or willing to drop the price to sell the house. Certainly not open to a loss. So….after much disappointment and frustration with the process and lack of a sale….and did I say stress….we decided it was time to enter a time of contentment and surrender. This was much harder for me – my husband could live in a tent. I am not exaggerating. So..off the market it came. By this point, I was fully ready for this. no more worries about realtors, surprise showings and worries that the house looked just so all the time. I have children after all!!! I do tend to be one to keep clean, but not having to worry lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. We did invest in some work that needed done though after we took the house off the market…we installed a sump pump and had the exterior drain fixed…we also invested in new gutters. What a relief these repairs will be when the rain comes!!! No more worries! We also had laminate flooring put into the living/kitchen/bathroom and it looks so nice. We were also was able to purchase a new countertop which I love! A new sink and faucet as well – our last sink was really bad – it had a PUR water filter permanently attached which had been on since the last owners lived here. We have been here over 4 years. Yuck. Little touches that have made a big difference, but not too much as we don’t want to put in an excessive amount of money. Wise investments only.
I am loving the new little touches and I am loving being off the market so much. I am looking to what I have to find contentment and you know what…after much disappointment, I am seeing just what I have. It is not my dream home, but it is so much more than many people have. I have a warm home with a loving family. Warm beds, clothing and bountiful food….I am beyond blessed. I don’t need it all. We live simply really. I don’t have a cell phone and there is no cable at the house. I have no clue how to text. I am OK with this…I just want our family to be filled with gratitude and to live within our means. This feels good. And it honors God. Thank you Lord for all you have blessed me with…I am eternally grateful.
