Our puppy Jelly Bean turns one today! I have no idea how we know this…Chris says he and the vet chose this date…suppose it works! She is one! Our knucklehead is growing up! We decided last year we wanted a dog. Something came over us both and we went for it. The desires for a dog came out of no where…we had a dog named Jack when we were first married while living in York…he was a 9-year-old black lab mix and we got him from the shelter.
|the early days – look how little she is!|
|a favorite shot – isn’t she sweet?!|
|the girls meeting her for the first time..Emma loves
pretending to be a dog!
|here comes trouble!|
He was a sad little guy when we got him… he was severely underweight and had been neglected and likely abused. We loved him so much! He had a heart issue and was on several medications … we couldn’t get any weight on him despite trying. He was a nervous nellie all the time… we would leave for work or even the room, and he would become very upset. We tried to crate train him during the day, but he chewed his way out of the metal crate. He was needing much emotional support. He was with us two years before he became so sick and his quality of life went so downhill we just could not be selfish anymore…we knew we had to have him put to sleep. This is a decision I have had to make before, but never wanted to…we loved our Jack! This experience was so painful. I remember Chris and I just laying on the vet’s floor crying and crying. We certainly did not ever want to got through this again. So…when we both had the itch for a pup it was with much trepidation. We on-line shopped (we’re so hip) for our little girl and found her from a shelter in New Jersey. We were looking for a boxer of some sort…they are always such nice dogs. We prepared our kids and off we went to get her! We were so excited…Emma could barely stand waiting! She has been with us a year now…I have learned several things in the process…first, she is not a boxer, but a pharough hound (close call I’m sure) and secondly, getting a puppy comes with it’s own challenges. I don’t know what we were thinking! Anyway, we are so glad she is here! She is a true knucklehead and a klutz! She steals the kids food, moves all the furniture, barrels at me nealy taking me out. She is just like Marmaduke really. She is such a sweet, gentle, loving girl though – we are lucky to have her in our family! Happy birthday JoBo!!! Now, off to take her for her zero degree birthday walk!!! Have a good one!
