Well…we’ll see how much of a tutorial this is! I simply wanted to make a shower curtain and a valance for the bathroom as I couldn’t find what I liked in the store. I don’t have a sewing machine (yet aspire to have one) and honestly didn’t do well in my high school clothing and fashion course. I was only in high school! Sewing was not on my priority list after all. I googled the net in search of how to make no-sew curtains and figured there must be a way…I found lots of good sites and advice, but the best place I found was on the site younghouselove.com – I will include the link. Follow this link for more info:
Anyone can do this…it’s really true. All you need is stitch witchery (from the local fabric store – I got mine from Joanne’s Fabrics in Scranton), scissors, a marking pen, measuring tape, an old washcloth or rag and an iron. Not to mention the fabric of your choice – this is the fun part! I used about 5-6 yards for my project. The lady at the counter can advise youon how much fabric to purchase which is what I did because I forgot my measurements…don’t you do that! I will simply link you to the video tutorial as it explains it all…I actually made a rod pocket for my curtains rather than using ring clips which worked fine, but the ring clips would likely allow for opening and closing of the curtains better. I will use these on my next project.
It took about two hours for me with Emma in tow, but it was worth it as I really like how they turned out. I was able to match up the shower curtain and the valance. Do note that I ‘didn’t need a shower curtain liner as I have big honkin’ shower doors to keep the curtain dry. I suppose a liner would protect your curtain from the water. it is also important to note that (honestly) Emma picked out the fabric…didn’t she do a nice job? Good luck!

My new shower curtain (I created 2 panels as the curtain was so wide) – love the results! |
I will post my own comment…I just tried Heat and Bond Tape and this is an awesome product and worked much better than the stitch witchery! So much easier and a better bonding product!
