My Summer Mantel

I love my fireplace mantel.  It is one of my favorite parts in my little house.  I love changing it up every season as well.
I wasn’t even unpacked from my trip when the makeover began….my original vision changed once I got going on it.  That happens to me all the time!
I decided upon a patriotic/nautical theme.
I made use of a scrapy wood flag I made last summer - click HERE to see that old post (excuse the living room – it is an old pic and everything is different now!).
I took that same flag which looked like this:
and recreated it to look like this:
I used stain to give it an antique, rustic look.
I am so pleased with how it came out that I decided
to use it to anchor my mantel decor.
What do you think?
Some cool old boxes including my latest find for $3!
I made this nautical bunting for the occasion.
Some patriotic and nautical decor – I created the
rope jar just for the mantel.
I had the little red lantern for as long
as I can remember.
Did you notice my new boat?
I picked this up for $2 on Friday at a yard sale – SCORE!
It fits so perfectly!
How about these cute Ball jars?
Also a yard sale find from the weekend!
I filled the jars with fresh picked flowers from the road side – my favorite kind!
Here is my homemade pennant flag banner.
I painted the tips navy blue. This banner was plan B.  My first banner didn’t happen as my local Walmart didn’t have what I needed.
I am so happy I added the stain.  It looks much more rich and rustic and toned down the red nicely.  See how it got into the nooks and crannies in the wood?
That is fabulous!
I used my burlap wreath on my mantel as well.

It is easy peasy.
A close up of the wreath’s scrumptuous texture.
Burlap is so versatile.
A little tin I painted and added a number to – it used to be a Rolling Rock bucket which I found at a yard sale for a buck.
The basket was also a find – I filled it with white an blue pillows.
I think the new look fits my home well.
I can’t stop looking at the flag and admiring how
much I love its new look.
Summer is here.
I am diving in!
