Pepita

Pinned Image

I am sure you were wondering what the heck the title “Pepita” was all about.  Well, the word Pepita is a Spanish word for the term “pumpkin seed” which is why I chose it.  I finally finished my antique dresser makeover and I think she should be called Pepita!
She looks like a Pepita to me!
Remember this cutie I purchased the other day?

She was great to begin with, but I of course needed to make her over.
I have been getting lots of questions about what process I go through to make over a piece so I am going to try to get better about sharing these details when I can.  For this particular dresser, I sanded the body of the dresser lightly.  I went totown on the top since I wanted a refinished top.  With some elbow grease, the top sanded down beautifully.
I then gave her three coats of Glidden’s Cinnamon Stick.
It’s a delicious orange.
I love Glidden.
It is definitely my favorite paint to work with.
It is smooth like butter.
This color is smashing.
Perfect for fall.
I think I am getting in the mood for the season.
I then distressed her lightly all over as well
as on the edges of the drawers.
I used Minwax’s Dark Walnut stain all over the piece to antique it.  I worked in sections using a foam brush to put on the stain.  I took a damp cloth and wiped it off just minutes after putting it on.  The stain remains in all the little nooks and crannies.
Here is what it looks like with stain applied.
And after wiping it off, it gives it an aged look.
I love that look.
Meet Pepita!

The top is divine. I used two stains on the top.
A natural stain and then
Dark Walnut again.
Lovely little keyholes.
I hand sanded and restained each wood knob.
That was fun.
Worth it in the end though.

I love my little Pepita.
She’s one spicy little number.
