Rockin’ Ruby: Antique Desk Makeover

I can’t wait to share this redo with you all…
I am lovin’ how it come out.
I have to tell you…it was a real booger to do.
Now that I am finished, I am just pleased as punch.
Especially due to the fact that it was a booger.
I purchased this gem of an antique desk
from some acquaintances:
Great desk and the hardware was fabulous
(I had already began to work when I took this picture)
The top of the desk had leather which I didn’t care for
so I planned to paint over this.
First I stripped off the hardware and then I sanded
it down to get her ready.
I felt she needed to be a bold color.
She needed to pop.
She wanted to be red.
I picked up some gorgeous boo-boo paint and I was thrilled about the $7 price tag.
That is, until I began to paint.
The paint was not so good – it was rather thin and
runny and I didn’t like it at all.
But I carried on.
I was determined to use that paint.
5 coats later, I bit the bullet and went out to buy
a different brand of paint.
Why yes, I did buy Glidden!
How did you know?
The color I chose was Candy Apple.
It was close to the original color I had begun with.
I gave it two more coats and added some amazing Annie Sloan Dark Wax (LOVE!) and here is how she came out…I decided to name her Ruby.
As in Rockin’ Ruby.
And that she does.
She is red delicious for sure.
