My Living and Dining Room Reveal: A Welcomed NEW Space

The BEFORE pictures were ok…don’t get me wrong.
I love my space!  It is open and perfectly suits our family, BUT I just couldn’t take the green anymore.
Or the country border.
That used to be my style, but my style has changed and evolved over the last few years and now I have different tastes

We live in a townhouse and I really like it.
We rent currently, but we are fortunate enough to have a great landlord that allows us to hang pictures, paint and essentially make the place our own.
How blessed are we?
We live near our school and church, have great neighbors and I have a great garage in which to work in.
I am so thankful.

That being said, I have wanted to paint in this living room for almost two years now and FINALLY it is finished!
I still have a great deal of painting to do yet down the hallway and in other bedrooms, but for now, I am enjoying the part that has been accomplished.
Accomplishing a task that has been burdening me for so long is very satisfying.
Here are some before pictures of my living room and dining room.  The rooms are open so the makeover was on both rooms :)

No staging on these pictures!
This is real life baby.

The process began with removing wallpaper border.
It was even worse than I thought it would be.
It was stuck right onto the original wall and it wouldn’t budge.
It was a nightmare.
We moved about half and then sanded and primed the rest and had to paint over it.
I hated to do that, BUT it was literally impossible.
Maybe I should have hired someone ;)

You can paint over wallpaper though…Bob Vila says so.
Sand down the paper as much as possible to lessen the seams and be sure loose pieces are removed and then prime the entire area to be painted with an oil-based primer.
Then add paint.
It is magic!

It was a MESS.
Holy cow. My Home Makeover - Embracing Change

I wrestled for days over the paint color.
I wanted a grey, but not a silver grey or one with a purple undertone but rather one that was a warmer, more grey-beige.
I went back and forth…
Silver Fox, Revere Pewter, and on and on.
I landed on a color called Intellectual Grey by Sherwin Williams.
I am so happy with my choice.
The color is FANTASTIC!
Here are some pictures of the after…I am really loving the new look!

I love the new look…the color is so inviting and my new space is so cozy.

Are you looking to start a new project?
Or paint a room?
I promise all the hard work will be worth it in the end ;)

  1. Yay! I’m happy to see that you accomplished your goal. It all looks so fresh and updated. Wishing you many years of “peace” and “happiness” in your new surrounding!

  2. WOW! It all comes together so beautifully–very inviting! Love the way you used a couch to divide the LR from the DR. We have a challenging great room (two walls, one of them with windows flanking fireplace, high ceiling, blah blah blah). Hubby resists putting our ektorp against the one usable wall, but perhaps if I show him yours with the gallery above, cozy touches, etc… Once again, you have inspired.

  3. Absolutely beautiful, Stacey! I painted my walls gray a few years ago and have just loved them ever since. Great job–your hard work really paid off! Blessings, Cecilia

  4. Paragraph writing iis also a fun, if you be familiar with after that you can rite otherwise it is difficult
    tto write.

Love the outcome!! I would love to see a list of where you made purchase if retail. Would love some help with inspiration!

  6. I saw your wall on Pinterest. I fell in love with all the decorations. Did you create them yourself? In particular the heart with the word love in it, and the dream sign.
Thank you for sharing your creations, I love your blog!

Where did you find these art pieces? I have been looking around out local hobby/craft/home decor stores, but can’t find similar items.
