A friend messaged me about this antique dresser – she asked if I would possibly be interested in purchasing it from her as she simply had no time for another project right now.
I scheduled a time to stop out to see it to be certain it would be an appropriate project for a makeover.
I knew from the second I laid eyes on her, she would be awesome with a makeover!
I also decided the second I saw her that I wanted to paint her blue.
I had to buy her now…I had already painted her in my mind!
This dresser was so charming…down to her sweet mirror and casters.
I couldn’t wait to get started!
I chose to paint her in Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in French Enamel which is an amazing and vibrant shade of blue.
Ironically this is the first milk paint color I ever used when I starting using Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint.
I painted up a pretty buffet in this color – click HERE to revisit that post.
This color makes my heart go pitter patter.
I am a blue kind of gal.
I did use bonding agent in the mix, but just a little as I was open to allowing it to chip and flake.
This dresser was farmhouse fresh…she wanted character.
After the dresser was painted with one coat of milk paint, she began to chip and flake almost immediately on the harp of the mirror and the sides of the dresser.
Lots of chipping!
Milk paint is so cool.
I sanded it off once it dried and decided I wanted it chippy, but just a little less than I was getting so I mixed some additional bonding agent in my milk paint for the second coat.
I painted another coat and it worked out well.
I am in love with this dresser!
She is just adorable.
I painted another two coats and then sanded her with a soft sanding block and then distressed her a bit with a more coarse sanding block.
After I finished painting and sanding her, I applied Miss Mustard Seed’s Hemp Oil with a lint free cloth.
The Hemp Oil really brings the milk paint to life!
She is gorgeous!
My favorite parts are all the areas on the dresser where the milk paint chipped, cracked and flaked.
She is beautiful and her finish is authentically antiqued.
I LOVE how she came out…she is just how I envisioned her!
She is available for sale at Fresh Vintage by Amy in Strasburg, PA if you are searching for an awesome charmer!
I can’t wait to MILK PAINT some more awesome pieces 🙂
