I live in a townhouse which I adore, BUT it lacks the charming features of an older home which I love.
I try to add charm where I can!
Case in point…I purchased this electric fireplace the other day to add some character and coziness to my space.
We used to have this awesome bluestone fireplace in our old home and I miss it so!
I loved to decorate it for the seasons and to sit by the fire on cold nights…and there were lots of cold nights when we used to live there!
An electric fireplace is not quite the same, but I still loved the idea and decided to go for it!
Here is the cute fireplace I purchased before I did anything to it:
It is your basic run-of-the-mill electric fireplace complete with faux brick.
I knew this fireplace could be really cute with just a little effort.
I decided to use my Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Ironstone on the mantel – when I mixed the paint, I added a generous amount of Miss Mustard Seed’s Bonding Agent so the paint would adhere well.
The finish on the wood mantel was a little glossy so I didn’t want to take a chance on it chipping.
I painted it up and with white, I needed to use many coats, but how beautiful it turned out!
I distressed it lightly and then sealed it up in clear wax to protect it from all sorts of issues (including my kiddos ;))
I liked the look of the brick, BUT I didn’t care for it in this case.
I decided to whitewash the faux brick using a 50% water, 50% Ironstone milk paint mix.
I bushed on two coats and it looked just right.
It is so pretty now!
Thank you milk paint 😉
I heart you!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it now!
It came out so darling AND I get to add the character I adore to my home.
It’s a WIN-WIN!
How fun will this be to use on a cold winter night?
Have a blessed evening!
