I spotted this gem of a desk at a favorite haunt of mine…I wasn’t even IN THE DOOR when I spotted it.
I thought it was such a cool piece – so unique.
It was older and I thought it may have even been handmade by the looks of it.
I liked that it has straight and simple lines and that this was a piece a guy would be equally as likely to own as a gal.
When I shop for pieces, I always bear in mind my audience as well as where the piece will be placed in someone’s home.
That’s my practical side coming through.
It helps me to make good decision with regard to selecting pieces.
I knew this one was a keeper.
I wanted this desk to have a more edgy look…and be more masculine looking.
I chose to use the layered milk paint technique I talked about in this previous post …feel free to click over to check it out.
First, I painted the entire desk in Miss Mustard Seed’s Typewriter Milk Paint.
Then I applied Vaseline on the edges where I wanted to black milk paint to show through on my next milk paint color.
Then I painted over the Typewriter Milk Paint and the Vaseline with Miss Mustard Seed’s Schloss (I think this is my favorite color of hers by the way).
Once the paint was dry, I simply distressed it.
In the areas where the Vaseline was applied, the top layer of Schloss wiped right off to reveal the black below.
Oh my word…I love how it came out!
It was just the look I was going for.
I gave the hardware two coats of my oil-rubbed bronze spray-paint.
I sealed up the entire desk with two coats of Miss Mustard Seed’s Hemp Oil being sure to wipe off the extra oil after it was all finished.
This desk is so super cool now don’t you think?
He was just so cool that he sold almost immediately.
Gotta love when that happens 🙂
Keep on painting my friends!!!
