I had been hunting for a piece of furniture for a client of mine for months.
I had searched high and low for the perfect piece for Dana’s upstairs hallway.
Dana knew the style and size she needed and I offered her lots of choices over those few months.
On another furniture pick up, I saw it.
THIS was THE PIECE!
I knew it was JUST what she was looking for!
I was pretty excited and sent her a text right away with a picture.
She LOVED it!
I was happy I was finally able to find her what she wanted.
She asked me to paint it in Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Schloss which is fantastic color – I would describe it as a greige.
It is a favorite of mine 🙂
I added the Bonding Agent when mixing the paint as I wanted to be able to control the amount of distressing – I knew she didn’t want the piece to be super chippy.
I gave it a light sanding before I painted it and I used three coats of paint. I could have easily done the piece in two coats, BUT I wanted to be sure every bit was evenly covered.
I distressed it a little and shined up those cool pulls which my client claimed to look just like an owl’s face.
She was right on…and I loved the piece even more then!
My business name is The Blessed Nest so of course, I love owls!!
What a H..O..O..T!
I sealed up the piece in Miss Mustard Seed’s Hemp Oil and refinished the gorgeous top in a Dark Walnut stain.
Isn’t that wood grain amazing?
It surely was the focal point!
How adorable is this sweet antique washstand now?
I almost hated to see it go….
my husband really had an affection for it.
It was a fun piece to do and I am glad to have helped out such a sweet gal.
I truly have the best job!
I’ve got to say it. The hardware looks like “owl-brows”. Love them! The oak top is gorgeous! I’m sure Dana is excited the whole thing turned out absolutely perfect. Another beautiful job!
Hi! How do you know when to use hemp oil and when to use wax? I have 6 ladderback chairs I’m going to redo. They are 30 years old in great condition. They are a light teal color and one is painted black. I was going to do MMS milk paint in farmhouse white with a clear wax. Do I have to prime the black one first?
What an awesome way to explain this-now I know evgrithyne!
I love reading these articles because they’re short but informative.
