Farmhouse Sweetheart

What is it about white?
Any furniture refinisher or painter would likely tell you that white is the hardest color to work with.
It is a pain to paint with as sometimes stain bleeds through it.
It takes a GAZILLION coats.
And it isn’t very forgiving…meaning it shows imperfections all too well.
And yet….it is so pretty.

I guess it is a LOVE/HATE thing.
I hate to paint with it, but I love the end result!
Using white milk paint is the same…it takes so many coats that you feel like it will NEVER be done.
And milk paint is so thin…
but how pretty is white!

I purchased the most adorable dresser you ever did see the other day…
it is cute as a button.
So sweet and petite.
She needed to be painted in white…oh the horror.

Miss Mustard Seed's Farmhouse White Dresser - Embracing Change

I sealed her up in shellac before I took to her in Miss Mustard Seed’s Farmhouse White Milk Paint just because the top was smooth, but it did have some staining and I wanted that to be sealed in and not show through.

I skipped the bonding agent on this one.

Then I began to paint…it took about four coats which wasn’t too bad really.

I wanted her to be imperfect and antiqued as if she was found just like this in a farmhouse…she was distressed a bit and her crackled paint looked fantastic!

I sealed up her perfectly imperfect sweetness in Miss Mustard Seed’s Hemp Oil.

I find that when I milk paint over a piece I sealed in shellac, that cracking and crazing happens…I love that!

How cute is she now…and in WHITE!

Simple, sweet and innocent.
She’s a doll.
I think she was well worth all the trouble, don’t you?
