Pure White Pretty

I bought the prettiest dresser the other week from a furniture friend of mine. I was happy to find her! The chest was pretty when I got her, but needed some OOMPH. She was solid with great lines and ample storage, but she was BORING. Blah.| She needed some personality! But my heart always goes pitter patter for Depression-Era pieces like this... I wanted to keep her simple ... elegant. I … [Read more...]

Antoinette Sweetheart

This dresser was just TOO cute not to buy and makeover. Sweet, simple, practical. Those are good features to have now aren't they? I wanted to keep her soft and sweet so I panted this cute dresser in Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint in Antoinette which is the softest and most lovely pink. After distressing, I sealed up the dresser in Annie Sloan's Clear Wax. I added some beautiful sparkly knobs … [Read more...]

Cheerful Dresser in Arles

Arles 9 - EC

Alas another piece I made over that I was so eager to get started with that I forgot to take a before picture! Please don't throw tomatoes at me...surely I make mistakes like this all the time. I confess I was very eager to try out some yellow paint. I was feeling YELLOW. Sometimes I feel in color ;) I painted up this adorable dresser with Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint in Arles...a color I have … [Read more...]

I am so giddy when I find great pieces to paint! When I found this pretty dresser, I was pretty happy and got to working right away. The lady I purchased her from is someone I have bought from many times before. Her family does auctions and estate clean outs and she has TWO HUGE BUILDINGS with beautiful old pieces stacked high. It's a little piece of heaven if you ask me. Once I got this … [Read more...]

Arabesque Dresser

Color inspires me. I am oftentimes out and about and see a sign or object and its color strikes me. I think to myself I just have to paint in that color! It is weird and random and creatively wonderful. I think that is how my desire to paint in pink came about. I saw something that inspired me. I just had to paint something pink! Then....I had to find the right piece for it. It takes a … [Read more...]

Hi guys! I have been muddling through trying to get into a new school routine since we began last Wednesday... and it is HARD! It takes such DISCIPLINE to do it well. Waking on time, making the bus, completing homework, getting dinner ready on time, and bedtime routines. Serenity NOW! I am sure it will get better, but it is a challenge right now. Blogging? Oh forget about it! I will get … [Read more...]

Tricycle Milk Painted Chest

tall red 1 - ec

She started a little like this... She was pretty cute with potential, but so dull. She needed some zip and some zing. She needed some RED. I used Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint in Tricycle on her base and refinished the top with a dark walnut stain. That oak grain was just too pretty to fully paint over. I left her wood knobs as they were...I like the tall oak chests with those rustic … [Read more...]

Farmhouse Sweetheart

FH White Dresser - 1

What is it about white? Any furniture refinisher or painter would likely tell you that white is the hardest color to work with. It is a pain to paint with as sometimes stain bleeds through it. It takes a GAZILLION coats. And it isn't very forgiving...meaning it shows imperfections all too well. And yet....it is so pretty. I guess it is a LOVE/HATE thing. I hate to paint with it, but I love … [Read more...]

Schloss Beauty

I didn't mind driving 45 minutes one way for this lovely depression-era beauty. My pleasure. The picture was a little unclear so I wasn't sure quite what I was getting. I was more than pleasantly surprised. I loved her tiered look, her turned legs and all her pretty carved details. Oh my. Isn't she a doll? She came with an amazing mirror too ... I couldn't wait to get her painted up! She … [Read more...]
