I was so very excited when I found this stunning dresser.
Some pieces just get you and this was one of those for me.
It was a Depression-Era piece which is my favorite as you know, but the wood on this dresser was just beautiful.
Just check out the grain on the drawer fronts!
This piece was QUALITY!
I knew she wouldn’t need much to make her even lovelier!
In fact, I was so excited I posted a teaser picture of her on Instagram and I had a good friend message me shortly after as she was searching for a special bedroom dresser for herself.
Thus was born a fantastic custom order!
Brittany and I conferred about what would look best on this dresser as she knew she wanted a two-toned look.
I encouraged her to keep the drawer fronts natural as the wood grain was just perfection.
So after much consideration, we hatched up a plan for her.
We went with Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Schloss with a Hemp Oil finish on the frame of the dresser and sides
and the top of the dresser, drawer fronts and legs would be left natural.
I sanded down the top well to remove the old finish and did the same with the drawers. The top sanded down nicely and looked amazing. The drawer fronts seemed to be fine too except that when I went to stain them with a dark stain and a poly for a protective coating. The stain and then poly seemed to go on unevenly. It just didn’t want to take well.
I was not happy at all.
I thought it looked splotchy and not very nice.
So I tried to strip off the work I had just done with Citristrip.
It cleaned up well and I opted to use stain once they were bare and finish with a MMS Hemp Oil finish – it went on so nicely and the wood looked amazing.
I skipped the poly too as it came out just right.
Sometimes Hemp Oil is all you need!
I did put 3-4 coats of clear matte poly on the top of the dresser though as I knew this finish needed to be super durable.
The turned legs were also finished simply with some amazing Hemp Oil.
Goodness…I love that stuff!
It is one of my most favorite products!
I added some gorgeous cut glass knobs from D. Lawless Hardware – you can find them HERE.
The end result is TRUE BEAUTY!
I love it!!!
I think Brittany had great vision for this piece and I hope she enjoys it for many, many years to come!
